Sr. VP, Civic Innovations
What Vanessa does at the Foundation:
As Senior Vice President of Civic Innovations, Vanessa works with a coalition of community organizations, business leaders, institutions of higher education, and government entities to help create a better ecosystem for civic engagement initiatives across our region. She leads the Foundation’s Civic Innovations team in creating opportunities for people to learn, engage and volunteer with the Greater Richmond community, empowering individuals to give back in ways that feel meaningful and generate the most impact. She is one of the co-founders of HandsOn Greater Richmond, the region’s volunteer hub, a program that joined the Community Foundation in 2018.
Vanessa’s lifelong passion has been focused on civic engagement initiatives from national service programs to volunteer capacity building. Previously, she was Director of HandsOn Greater Richmond, Program Director for Virginia Commonwealth University’s Service-Learning Program, and served as Assistant Director of Northwest Service Academy’s Portland, OR AmeriCorps office.
When Vanessa’s not working:
She loves biking, hiking and exploring with her two daughters and husband, and enjoys the community and vibrancy of her Northside neighborhood. She also listens to as many podcasts as she can get her hands on.
