Heather Dayton Memorial Scholarship

The Heather Dayton Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 by Heather’s family to preserve her memory by supporting post-secondary scholarships for students of Native American descent. The scholarship is based on respect for diversity and tolerance for all people, community service, and a commitment to working for the benefit of Native Americans.

Eligibility

An eligible student must be a graduating high school senior. Preference will be given to students attending King William High School in King William, VA; New Kent High School, in New Kent, VA; Central High School in King and Queen County, VA; or Charles City High School in Charles City, VA.

An eligible student must be of Native American descent.

An eligible student must demonstrate a commitment to his or her community and participation in school activities.

An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.

Selection Criteria

Academic achievement based on grade point average and SAT scores.

Involvement in school activities and the community through public service.

Financial need based on the completed Student Financial Information Form and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any.

Personal Statement Topic:What it means to be Native American.
