The J. Martin Diggs Memorial Scholarship was established in 2000 by the family of J. Martin Diggs. The scholarship serves as a memorial to a man who served his community for over 60 years as a minister and for 30 years as a teacher and administrator (including Assistant Superintendent) in the Mathews County public school system. The purpose of this scholarship is to support post-secondary educational scholarships for qualifying graduates of Mathews County and Gloucester County public high schools. The recipient of the scholarship will be a student who demonstrates a capacity for fairness, compassion, and concern for others – ideals for which Martin Diggs stood for during his lifetime.
