W. J. Blanchet Scholarship

The W. J. Blanchet Scholarship was established in 2003 by Dr. Nadia Blanchet to support students who will pursue post-secondary study in the fields of science and medicine by awarding educational scholarships to qualifying graduates of Richmond area private and public schools.

Eligibility

An eligible student must be a high school graduate of a public or private high school in Richmond City, Henrico, Chesterfield or Hanover.

An eligible student must demonstrate outstanding academic work, financial need, and strong participation in school activities and community service.

An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university the following academic year.

An eligible student must demonstrate intent to pursue post-secondary study in the fields of science and medicine. 

Selection Criteria

Candidates for this scholarship will be selected from the pool of applicants for the Virginia Urology Scholarship Program. Please see the Virginia Urology Scholarship page for more details.

Academic achievement will be evaluated based on grade point average and SAT scores.

Financial need will be evaluated on the basis of the completed FAFSA Report Summary - Demonstration of Financial Need form and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any.

Leadership in school activities and community service will be evaluated on the basis of the student's extracurricular involvement, academic standing, honors and awards, and involvement in the community through public service.
