Elaine Summerfield tapped to lead Richmond Opportunities Inc.

Elaine SummerfieldTogether with the board of Richmond Opportunities Inc., we are pleased to announce that Elaine Summerfield will become Acting Executive Director of Richmond Opportunities Inc. (ROI) on June 1. As its first full-time employee, Elaine will oversee day-to-day operations and enhance the organization’s ability to deliver on its mission – to provide holistic support to all of Richmond’s public housing residents. As the City works across sectors to reduce poverty, particularly in the East End with the current redevelopment of Creighton Court, ROI will be responsible for the coordination of services among nonprofit and government agencies, efficient allocation of resources and evaluation of short- and long-term goals.

“In addition to her strong work ethic and extensive knowledge of the community, Elaine offers the kind of consistency and focus we need to drive positive change for residents of the City,” said Jeffrey Cribbs, Board Chair of Richmond Opportunities Inc. and President Emeritus of Richmond Memorial Health Foundation. “There is no better time than now and no better leader than Elaine to accelerate our work.”

Since 2006, Elaine has been a pivotal leader at The Community Foundation. With a strategic mindset and a heart for the community, she has facilitated high-impact philanthropy among individuals and foundations in ways that have significantly improved the health and well-being of the Greater Richmond region. Her efforts have added structure and focus to numerous grant programs, capacity building efforts, community-wide initiatives and the overall strategic direction of the Foundation. Elaine is also large part of the Foundation’s evolution from grantmaker to community builder, recognizing that our philanthropic efforts are sustainable only when our knowledge and relationships are fully leveraged. In recognition of Elaine’s vision for the future and TCF’s ongoing commitment to the empowerment of Richmond’s residents, we are pleased to join the board of ROI in congratulating and supporting Elaine in the transition to her new role.
